The Opportunity:
As a SENCO, you will play a key role in shaping the school’s approach to supporting students with special educational needs. You will lead the development and implementation of the SEN policy, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. This is a vital role for someone passionate about making a difference in education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy and provision.
- Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operation of SEN support for individual students.
- Ensure the school meets all statutory responsibilities regarding students with SEN or a disability.
- Model the school’s vision, values, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Work closely with teaching staff and external agencies to provide tailored support.
- Promote and celebrate the achievements of students with SEN or a disability.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).
- Complete the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators or the NPQ for SENCOs within three years of appointment.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience in developing and managing SEN provision
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion
Preferred
- Experience in a similar role as a SENCO
- Knowledge of the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators or the NPQ for SENCOs
- Experience with differentiated teaching strategies
- Experience in a multi-academy trust environment
