The Opportunity:

As a SENCO, you will lead the strategic and operational support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive high-quality, personalised education. This role is pivotal in shaping the school’s SEND strategy and fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development, implementation, and review of the school’s SEND policy and annual improvement plan.
• Advise staff on differentiated teaching strategies, interventions, and the graduated approach to support student learning.
• Oversee assessment processes, including baselining, screening, and ongoing progress monitoring.
• Act as the primary liaison with parents, local authorities, and external agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Coordinate targeted intervention programmes, particularly in literacy and numeracy, to support student development.
• Ensure statutory compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and maintain accurate SEND records and documentation.
• Identify training needs and contribute to whole-school CPD in SEND and inclusive practice.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Strong understanding of special educational needs and the complexity of supporting students with SEND
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
• Commitment to promoting inclusive teaching and ensuring statutory compliance

Preferred

• SENCo qualification
• Experience in developing and implementing SEND strategies
• Background in working with students with SEMH or autism
