The Opportunity:
As a SENCO, you will lead the strategic and operational support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive high-quality, personalised education. This role is pivotal in shaping the school’s SEND strategy and fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and review of the school’s SEND policy and annual improvement plan.
- Advise staff on differentiated teaching strategies, interventions, and the graduated approach to support student learning.
- Oversee assessment processes, including baselining, screening, and ongoing progress monitoring.
- Act as the primary liaison with parents, local authorities, and external agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Coordinate targeted intervention programmes, particularly in literacy and numeracy, to support student development.
- Ensure statutory compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and maintain accurate SEND records and documentation.
- Identify training needs and contribute to whole-school CPD in SEND and inclusive practice.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong understanding of special educational needs and the complexity of supporting students with SEND
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
- Commitment to promoting inclusive teaching and ensuring statutory compliance
Preferred
- SENCo qualification
- Experience in developing and implementing SEND strategies
- Background in working with students with SEMH or autism
