The Opportunity:

As a SENCo, you will lead and manage the school's special education provision, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive. This role is central to delivering an inclusive, effective, and statutory-compliant special education service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the school fulfils its statutory responsibilities in accordance with each pupil’s EHCP and SEN-D assessment.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school’s special education policy.
  • Coordinate and deploy the school’s provision in line with policies, staffing, and resources for each pupil.
  • Communicate with parents, staff, agencies, and local authorities regarding pupil progress and support strategies.
  • Ensure an integrated approach to SEN provision, including staff deployment, resources, and intervention strategies.
  • Advise the Headteacher on the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
  • Carry out safeguarding duties as required.
  • Lead and manage the school’s therapy offer.
  • Prepare information and conduct annual statutory reviews or specific case conferences.
  • Promote best practice through inset and CPD for new teachers.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
  • Proven track record of teaching in special needs environments.
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective SEN policy.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience in managing complex scenarios and resolving conflicts.

Preferred

  • Accredited training in special education areas such as Autism or Dyslexia.
  • Management or leadership qualification.
  • NPQSL/H/SENDCo or willingness to achieve within 2 years.
  • SENDCO or Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications.
