About the School:

The school is a voluntary-controlled secondary boys’ school, located in Merton, south-west London, for students aged 11–18. It is committed to fostering a strong sense of community, responsibility, and academic excellence.

The Opportunity:

As the SENCO, you will play a vital role in leading and managing the school’s SEND policy, ensuring that students with special educational needs receive the support they need to succeed. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people and contribute to an outstanding school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the school's SEND policy and provision.
  • Coordinate support for students with special educational needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Develop and implement the SEND policy in line with statutory duties and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students and ensure effective provision.
  • Oversee the Additional Resourced Provision (ARP) for students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and support programmes.
  • Lead on the transition of students from primary to secondary and from secondary to post-16 provision.
  • Support staff in implementing inclusive teaching strategies and professional development.
  • Ensure the school’s Local Offer is up to date and accessible.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, governors, and other school leaders to develop strategic SEND provision.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Experience in developing and implementing SEND policy.
  • Ability to manage a team and lead professional development.
  • Understanding of statutory requirements and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing an Additional Resourced Provision (ARP).
  • Access Arrangements Assessor or Dyslexia Assessor qualification.
  • Experience with English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision.
  • Experience in working with external agencies and multi-agency teams.
