The Opportunity:

As SENCO Assistant Headteacher, you will provide strategic leadership for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the school. This role is pivotal in ensuring all students receive the highest quality of support and provision, aligned with the school’s mission and vision for inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the school’s SEND policy and strategy to ensure compliance with statutory guidance.
  • Shape and deliver a high-quality, inclusive SEND curriculum tailored to the needs of all students.
  • Oversee the implementation of the graduated response and ensure consistent, effective support for students with additional needs.
  • Deliver impactful Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for staff to enhance SEND practice across the school.
  • Model outstanding teaching and learning practices that support students with SEND.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to align SEND improvements with the Academy Development Plan.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, students, and external agencies to support student outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision and make data-informed recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, ideally as a SENCO.
  • In-depth knowledge of SEND policy, statutory requirements, and best practice in inclusive education.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to Catholic values and the mission of the school.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Catholic school or similar educational setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development and strategic planning.
  • A track record of driving improvements in SEND provision and student outcomes.
  • Familiarity with the Society of the Sacred Heart’s educational philosophy and values.
