The Opportunity:

As a SEND Lecturer, you will play a vital role in supporting autistic learners to reach their full potential. This is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships, facilitate challenging conversations, and lead a team focused on empowering young people through education and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with learners, focusing on their individual needs and challenges.
  • Facilitate challenging conversations with students, maintaining respect and ensuring their voice is heard.
  • Advocate for mental health and foster a supportive, inclusive community.
  • Work closely with learners to identify personal and educational goals and create tailored plans.
  • Guide and inspire staff to effectively support learners, especially when addressing mental health challenges.
  • Manage individualised schedules for learners with exceptional attention to detail and ensure safeguarding responsibilities are met.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including OT, SaLT, and work experience partners, to address diverse learner needs.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in lesson planning, individualised targets, and learner schedules.
  • Think creatively to motivate and engage learners, ensuring their progress aligns with long-term goals.
  • Prepare learners for life after college, including further education, employment, or transitioning back to their homes and communities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience working with autistic young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in developing and delivering individualised learning plans.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in mental health support or pastoral care.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and its application in education.
  • Experience in facilitating transitions to further education or employment.
  • Background in special educational needs or disability support.
