The Opportunity:

As a Visual Arts Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the practical work in the Visual Arts Department. You will work closely with the Head of Department and the Visual Arts Studio Manager to ensure the smooth operation of learning environments, including Photography, Graphics, Fine Art, and Textiles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of practical learning in Photography and Graphics studios, and across other areas of the department.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and students, ensuring safe and effective use of equipment and materials.
  • Maintain and manage studio spaces, ensuring they are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff to develop and implement practical learning activities.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of specialist equipment and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in all practical learning environments.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department’s technical support and resources.
  • Support the planning and delivery of enrichment and portfolio courses.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in a technical or creative field.
  • Experience in a similar technician role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and support multiple areas within the department.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience with digital and traditional art media.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a practical learning environment.
  • Experience with photography and graphics equipment.
  • Understanding of curriculum delivery in a sixth form or further education setting.
  • Experience in a college or sixth form environment.
