The Opportunity:

As a SENDCo, you will lead the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision, ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a forward-thinking, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality 1:1 lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Teach small groups, including Year 4/5/6 maths and comprehension, and early years intervention sessions.
  • Monitor pupil progress using formal and informal assessments, identifying areas for targeted interventions.
  • Ensure exam concessions are tracked, implemented, and practised from Year 4 onwards.
  • Maintain and update the SEND and Learning Enhancement (LE) registers termly.
  • Create and update pupil passports, ensuring staff are informed and aligned with student needs.
  • Uphold the SEND Code of Practice and ensure all procedures align with statutory requirements.
  • Line-manage 1:1 LSAs, including recruitment, deployment, and matching LSAs to pupils.
  • Conduct lesson observations and provide timely feedback to staff.
  • Deliver staff training on SEND best practice and new pedagogy.
  • Hold regular meetings with parents to discuss pupil progress and concerns.
  • Act as the first point of contact for parents of SEND/LE pupils, offering guidance and support.
  • Liaise with external professionals, including therapists and educational psychologists.
  • Organise and manage external therapy timetables and attend relevant training.
  • Organise termly SEND coffee mornings and lead the whole-school Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
  • Manage the SEND department budget, including resource purchases and EHCP spending.
  • Support pupil recruitment by meeting prospective families and assessing suitability.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • NASENCO qualification or willingness to acquire it within two years of starting the role.
  • Experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision.
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to manage a budget and track spending accurately.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching small groups and delivering 1:1 lessons.
  • Experience with formal and informal assessment tools.
  • Experience in line management and staff appraisal.
  • Experience in parent engagement and support.
  • Experience in external liaison with therapists and educational professionals.
  • Experience in event organisation and community engagement.
