The Opportunity:
As Senior Gardener, you will lead and manage the maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of the school's outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain a tranquil and inspiring environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is vital in supporting the school's environmental sustainability goals and preserving its natural charm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the gardens team, ensuring the efficient delivery of gardening operations across the Estate and at St Andrews School.
- Oversee the maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of landscaped gardens, woodland areas, and outdoor spaces.
- Develop and implement seasonal and weather-dependent work schedules to ensure optimal garden care.
- Monitor and manage the preservation of trees and other key features within the landscape.
- Manage and oversee gardens improvement projects to align with the school's environmental and sustainability objectives.
- Ensure all gardening activities are carried out with minimal environmental impact.
- Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across the gardening team.
- Operate and maintain a range of gardening machinery and equipment.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in garden management and horticulture.
- Knowledge of working in conservation areas and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
- RHS Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety standards.
- Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of gardening machinery.
Preferred
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- ILM Level 3 or equivalent.
- Experience in managing large-scale garden or landscape projects.
