The Opportunity:
As a Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo), you will lead the Learning Support Team and ensure that every student with special educational needs and disabilities receives the support they need to thrive. This is a key leadership role within a high-performing, inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Learning Support Department with a focus on effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain and update the SEND Register, Additional Needs Register, and Student Monitoring Register.
- Oversee inclusion presentations for events such as Open Days, Parents’ Evenings, and Transitions Events.
- Coordinate the Exams Access Arrangement process with the Exams Team.
- Liaise regularly with Form Tutors, Teachers, Heads of Departments, and parents regarding student welfare and development.
- Support the interviewing and probation process for new Learning Support staff.
- Attend management meetings and collaborate closely with the Head of Inclusion.
- Contribute to reports, Governors’ meetings, and KHDA Inspections.
- Provide expert guidance on special educational needs and disabilities and ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Fully qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status and a degree in a relevant subject area.
- Proven experience as a SENCo or substantial prior experience in a large secondary school context.
- In-depth knowledge of statutory SEND requirements and whole school inclusion frameworks.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Bachelors of Education and PGCE with specialism in SEND, or a Bachelors in a subject relevant to SEND plus PGCE in Education.
- Experience teaching in a UK setting or renowned British Curriculum / international school.
- National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SEN Coordination or National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO).
Preferred
- International Award in SEN Qualification (iSENCo).
- Experience in leading and managing a team within a large educational institution.
