The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to lead and develop the school’s SEND provision. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all learners receive the support they need to thrive, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, professionalism, and evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision.
  • Develop and implement inclusive strategies and frameworks in line with statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Provide professional guidance and training to staff on SEND best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support plans.
  • Ensure all documentation and records related to SEND are maintained accurately and securely.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with additional requirements across the school community.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate SEND strategies into the school’s overall educational vision.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Fully qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Current or substantial prior experience as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) in a large secondary school.
  • Hold one of the following qualifications: National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SEN Coordination, National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO), or International Award in SEN Qualification (iSENCo).
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory SEND requirements and whole school inclusion frameworks.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and developing SEND provision within a large educational institution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases and provide tailored support to learners with diverse needs.
  • Experience with evidence-based approaches to special educational needs support.
