The Opportunity:
As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with vision impairment to access and engage fully with their studies. You will help develop their independence, learning skills, and confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of learning programmes within the VI Centre of Excellence
- Promote students’ independence and learning skills through tailored support
- Ensure the safeguarding of students, following established procedures and reporting concerns promptly
- Create and adapt classroom resources to meet the needs of students with vision impairment
- Assist students in participating fully in learning and leisure activities
- Use ICT and other technologies to support learning and accessibility
- Collaborate with teaching staff to provide effective classroom and study support
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- GCSEs or equivalent level 2 qualifications in English and Maths
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use ICT software including Microsoft Outlook and Word
- Understanding of individual needs and ability to adapt support accordingly
- Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare
Preferred
- Experience working with young people with vision impairment
- Knowledge of how support roles contribute to independent learning and personal development
- Experience in an educational or learning support setting
