Specialist Teaching Assistant job opportunity. Support blind and partially sighted students in a specialist further education setting.

The Opportunity:

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with vision impairment to access and engage fully with their studies. You will help develop their independence, learning skills, and confidence in a supportive and inclusive environment. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of learning programmes within the VI Centre of Excellence
  • Promote students’ independence and learning skills through tailored support
  • Ensure the safeguarding of students, following established procedures and reporting concerns promptly
  • Create and adapt classroom resources to meet the needs of students with vision impairment
  • Assist students in participating fully in learning and leisure activities
  • Use ICT and other technologies to support learning and accessibility
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to provide effective classroom and study support

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • GCSEs or equivalent level 2 qualifications in English and Maths
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use ICT software including Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Understanding of individual needs and ability to adapt support accordingly
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare

Preferred

  • Experience working with young people with vision impairment
  • Knowledge of how support roles contribute to independent learning and personal development
  • Experience in an educational or learning support setting
