Summary:

Teaching Assistant role available at a specialist VI further education institution in London and the South-East.

The school is a specialist provider of education for visually impaired students, offering a unique “just-enough support” approach to help students thrive in mainstream college environments.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with vision impairments in accessing mainstream college courses and developing life skills. This is a vital role in helping students achieve independence and personal growth within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with vision impairments in accessing their courses and developing life skills.
  • Assist in delivering a wrap-around curriculum that promotes independent learning.
  • Work closely with therapists and support staff to provide holistic care and support.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement.
  • Provide 1-1 support tailored to individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and IT-related duties as required.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy.
  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in a related subject such as Supporting Teaching and Learning.
  • Proven IT skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the values of Trust, Energy, Ambition, and Motivation.

Preferred

  • Experience working with students with vision impairments.
  • Previous experience in a teaching or learning support role.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices.
  • Experience with assistive technology.
