Summary:

Sports Teaching Assistant role in a supportive school environment with a focus on student development.

The Opportunity:

As a Sports Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in using sport as a tool for student engagement and development. You will support students through structured physical activity and help them build confidence, teamwork, and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students through structured sports and physical activity sessions
  • Plan and deliver outcome-focused sports programmes
  • Assist students during periods of dysregulation and promote emotional regulation
  • Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to monitor and support student progress
  • Develop sporting opportunities within the school and local community
  • Act as a consistent and positive role model for students
  • Contribute to enrichment programmes and extracurricular activities
  • Support the development and delivery of sports curriculum and activities

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Passion for sport and working with young people
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students
  • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
  • Confidence supporting students with special educational needs and mental health challenges
  • Proactive, organised, and willing to take initiative
  • Team player who contributes positively to the school community

Preferred

  • Experience in education, coaching, or youth work
  • Experience with safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Knowledge of sports curriculum and activity planning
  • Experience in delivering one-to-one and small group interventions
