The Opportunity:

As a Student Support Worker, you will play a vital role in shaping the daily experience of students within a supportive and alternative education setting. This role combines classroom support, pastoral care, and the coordination of a daily enrichment programme. You will work closely with another Student Support Worker to ensure a consistent, positive presence across the day and contribute to the overall culture of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students through 1:1 check-in sessions and build strong, trusting relationships
  • Assist with key classes such as cooking, photography, and science
  • Act as a calm and approachable presence in the café area and during informal activities
  • Coordinate and lead the daily enrichment programme
  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students
  • Collaborate with the wider team to ensure a consistent and positive student experience
  • Encourage and support students in achieving their academic and personal goals
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in an educational or supportive environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic in challenging situations
  • Commitment to supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Flexibility to work across a range of roles and responsibilities

Preferred

  • Experience in pastoral care or youth work
  • Knowledge of alternative education provision or special needs support
  • Experience with enrichment activities or informal learning
  • Understanding of mental health and well-being support
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting
