The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate Teacher of English to provide maternity cover in the Senior School (ages 11–18), supporting students in preparing for GCSE and A Level examinations. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant and successful English Faculty, with a strong focus on developing students' literary appreciation and academic skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach English across the Senior School age range, including GCSE and A Level courses.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that foster a love of literature and writing.
  • Support students in achieving strong academic outcomes, with a focus on developing reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Contribute to the development of the English curriculum and co-curricular activities, including the school magazine and theatre visits.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, the librarian, and the Writer in Residence to enhance the literary culture of the school.
  • Participate in school events, educational visits, and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide pastoral care and support to students as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and report student progress regularly.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a relevant degree and teaching qualification (e.g., QTS).
  • Experience teaching English at GCSE and A Level, or the ability to demonstrate strong subject knowledge and teaching capability.
  • Commitment to fostering a love of literature and developing students’ writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Flexibility to work within the school’s hours, including before and after school.

Preferred

  • Experience with the Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel A Level specifications.
  • Experience working in a co-educational environment.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities such as drama, writing competitions, or literary events.
  • Familiarity with teaching younger students or those with diverse learning needs.
