The Opportunity:
We are seeking a passionate Teacher of English to provide maternity cover in the Senior School (ages 11–18), supporting students in preparing for GCSE and A Level examinations. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant and successful English Faculty, with a strong focus on developing students' literary appreciation and academic skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach English across the Senior School age range, including GCSE and A Level courses.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that foster a love of literature and writing.
- Support students in achieving strong academic outcomes, with a focus on developing reading, writing, and analytical skills.
- Contribute to the development of the English curriculum and co-curricular activities, including the school magazine and theatre visits.
- Collaborate with colleagues, the librarian, and the Writer in Residence to enhance the literary culture of the school.
- Participate in school events, educational visits, and extracurricular activities.
- Provide pastoral care and support to students as required.
- Maintain accurate records and report student progress regularly.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with a relevant degree and teaching qualification (e.g., QTS).
- Experience teaching English at GCSE and A Level, or the ability to demonstrate strong subject knowledge and teaching capability.
- Commitment to fostering a love of literature and developing students’ writing and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Flexibility to work within the school’s hours, including before and after school.
Preferred
- Experience with the Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel A Level specifications.
- Experience working in a co-educational environment.
- Involvement in co-curricular activities such as drama, writing competitions, or literary events.
- Familiarity with teaching younger students or those with diverse learning needs.
