The Opportunity:

Join a dynamic team as a Trainee Computer Science Teacher, combining paid employment with the opportunity to gain a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education. This role is ideal for graduates passionate about teaching and committed to a career in sixth form education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Computer Science and Computing courses to 16–19-year-old students.
  • Support students through academic mentoring and covering teaching duties when needed.
  • Attend and participate in PGCE lectures and seminars on Monday evenings.
  • Prepare and mark student work, and plan lessons effectively.
  • Contribute to departmental resources and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Attend college events such as Open Evenings and Student Review Meetings.
  • Engage in professional development and continuous learning opportunities.
  • Ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant degree in IT or a related subject.
  • No prior teaching qualification.
  • Commitment to a career in teaching.
  • Experience working with young adults, preferred.

Preferred

  • Experience in an educational environment or shadowing teachers.
  • Demonstrated collaborative working with adults.
  • Evidence of personal qualities that align with teaching, such as patience, enthusiasm, and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with programming languages, particularly Python.
  • Ability to contribute to extra-curricular activities and college life.
