The Opportunity:

A Trainee Hearing Impaired Teaching Assistant is needed to support students in mainstream classes with a focus on communication and organization. This role provides a comprehensive training package and the opportunity to learn British Sign Language (BSL). The ideal candidate is passionate about working with students with hearing impairments and is committed to making a positive impact in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with hearing impairments in mainstream classes in a calm and professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Assist in the delivery of lessons and classroom activities.
  • Learn and use British Sign Language (BSL) as part of the training package.
  • Work collaboratively with the Centre for the Deaf and the Head of Centre.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of student progress and support provided.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Enthusiasm and a desire to work with students with a hearing impairment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Willingness to learn and use British Sign Language (BSL).

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with students with hearing impairments.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices.
  • Experience with British Sign Language (BSL) or willingness to learn quickly.
