The Opportunity:

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience in a specialist setting that supports students aged 11–19 with autism and SEMH needs. This role is ideal for those looking to develop their career in education while working within a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching staff in delivering a tailored learning experience to students with autism and SEMH needs.
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and promoting positive student engagement.
  • Act as a role model and provide encouragement to students to enhance their academic and social development.
  • Work closely with therapists and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student care.
  • Participate in training and professional development to build your skills as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a calm and sensory-friendly classroom environment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and record-keeping as required.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to support the individual needs of students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Enthusiasm for working with young people with autism and SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow school policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification during the apprenticeship.

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Experience with autism support strategies or therapeutic interventions.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices.
  • Experience with AI tools for personal development and research.
