The Opportunity:
As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience in a specialist setting that supports students aged 11–19 with autism and SEMH needs. This role is ideal for those looking to develop their career in education while working within a supportive and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support teaching staff in delivering a tailored learning experience to students with autism and SEMH needs.
- Assist in managing classroom behaviour and promoting positive student engagement.
- Act as a role model and provide encouragement to students to enhance their academic and social development.
- Work closely with therapists and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student care.
- Participate in training and professional development to build your skills as a Teaching Assistant.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a calm and sensory-friendly classroom environment.
- Assist with administrative tasks and record-keeping as required.
- Collaborate with other staff members to support the individual needs of students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Enthusiasm for working with young people with autism and SEMH needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow school policies and procedures.
- Willingness to complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification during the apprenticeship.
Preferred
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
- Experience with autism support strategies or therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices.
- Experience with AI tools for personal development and research.
