The Opportunity:
The Assistant Head of English will lead and inspire a successful department, driving student achievement and progress in English. This is a key leadership role for someone who is passionate about education and committed to raising standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the English department to ensure outstanding teaching and learning.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve attainment and achievement in English.
- Work closely with senior leaders to shape the academic direction of the school.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for English teachers.
- Contribute to the wider leadership of the school and its strategic goals.
- Ensure the department maintains a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
- Represent the department in meetings and across the school community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching English at secondary level.
- Minimum of 1 year teaching experience, with a strong track record of student achievement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire colleagues.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Commitment to the school’s values of ambition, knowledge, and determination.
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership or middle management role within a secondary school.
- Experience of teaching A-level English.
- Familiarity with the United Learning Trust and its educational philosophy.
- Experience in driving academic improvement and attainment in a large school setting.
