Assistant Head of English needed at a thriving 11-18 school in Sheffield.

The Opportunity:

The Assistant Head of English will lead and inspire a successful department, driving student achievement and progress in English. This is a key leadership role for someone who is passionate about education and committed to raising standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the English department to ensure outstanding teaching and learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve attainment and achievement in English.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to shape the academic direction of the school.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development for English teachers.
  • Contribute to the wider leadership of the school and its strategic goals.
  • Ensure the department maintains a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the department in meetings and across the school community.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching English at secondary level.
  • Minimum of 1 year teaching experience, with a strong track record of student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s values of ambition, knowledge, and determination.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or middle management role within a secondary school.
  • Experience of teaching A-level English.
  • Familiarity with the United Learning Trust and its educational philosophy.
  • Experience in driving academic improvement and attainment in a large school setting.
