The Opportunity:

The Assistant Head of Religious Education will lead and inspire a team of experienced teachers within the Philosophy, Theology & Ethics (PTE) department. This role is pivotal in delivering a programme that encourages spiritual, moral, and social development, and supports the school’s mission to provide a world-class Catholic education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of PTE in leading and managing the PTE department.
  • Assist in the leadership and management of the Stella Maris Leadership Award.
  • Contribute to the preparation for a CSI inspection and ensure the highest standards in Catholic life and mission.
  • Monitor and respond to qualitative and quantitative data to ensure student achievement and attainment.
  • Assist in the development of staff within the PTE department.
  • Liaise with SLT, Senior Tutors, and external stakeholders to support the PTE programme.
  • Promote and support the welfare of students and staff in line with the school’s mission and values.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning in PTE and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Support the school’s commitment to safeguarding, equality, and diversity.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A practising Catholic with the ability to provide a priest reference.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a department within a Catholic educational setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, ethos, and values.
  • Experience in teaching and delivering PTE or similar subjects at post-16 level.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience in working with external stakeholders, including the Diocese and partner schools.
  • Experience in leading or supporting student leadership and pastoral initiatives.
  • Experience in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Familiarity with the Catholic Education Service (CES) and its guidelines.
