The Opportunity:

As Assistant Head of School, you will play a key strategic and operational role across the school, championing outstanding autism practice and ensuring that provision reflects the school’s Quality of Life model. This is a pivotal role for a passionate leader with deep knowledge of autism education, committed to making a meaningful difference to young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion and implement the school’s Ambitious Approach to autism education
  • Co-lead the development and delivery of the Quality of Life model across the school
  • Model exemplary practice and inspire colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and professional development
  • Build capacity within the school by supporting staff development and leadership
  • Ensure the safeguarding culture is strong and that all pupils feel safe, supported, and able to thrive
  • Work collaboratively with families, governors, and external professionals to support pupils’ educational and personal development
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the school and support the Head of School in achieving institutional goals
  • Ensure that all pupils receive an ambitious, enriching education that prepares them for adulthood

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Significant leadership experience within a specialist or inclusive setting
  • High level of expertise in autism education and evidence-based practice
  • Strong commitment to coaching and developing others
  • Deep understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and best practice
  • Strong strategic thinking and operational effectiveness
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and improving outcomes for all pupils

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a special school or inclusive setting
  • Experience with the Ambitious Approach to autism education
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation
  • Experience in managing and leading teams
  • Experience in working with families and external professionals
