The Opportunity:
As the Head of Curriculum and Learning, you will lead the strategic development and implementation of a bespoke, inclusive curriculum tailored to meet the needs of learners with SLCN. This role offers the chance to shape teaching and learning practices across sites and phases, while driving continuous improvement and innovation in education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of a bespoke, inclusive curriculum for learners with SLCN.
- Coordinate curriculum design and implementation across sites and phases, ensuring alignment with statutory and best practice guidance.
- Support staff in delivering high-quality, personalised learning experiences through lesson observations, learning walks, and developmental feedback.
- Collaborate with external agencies, including speech and language therapists, OTs, and arts therapists, to ensure a transdisciplinary approach to learning.
- Use pupil progress and attainment data to inform curriculum planning and provision.
- Ensure the implementation of teaching and learning requirements outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Promote and embody the school’s values of Kindness, Responsibility, Growth, and Belonging.
- Plan and teach according to pupils’ individual learning profiles, using well-matched resources to support learning outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience of leading or coordinating curriculum design and implementation in an educational setting.
- Strong experience working with children with SLCN, SEMH needs, and autism.
- Proven ability to use pupil progress and attainment data to inform curriculum planning.
- Experience of timetabling and balancing curriculum demands with staffing allocations.
- Confidence in delivering lesson observations, learning walks, and developmental feedback.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with internal teams, families, and external agencies.
- Understanding of trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and person-centred approaches to behaviour.
- Experience implementing teaching and learning requirements outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Sound knowledge of adapting and personalising the National Curriculum for speech, language, and communication needs and neurodivergent learning styles.
Preferred
- Experience delivering curricula across Pre Key Stage Levels, National Curriculum Levels, and Key Stage 4 and 5 pathways.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, including experience managing or supporting a team.
- Experience with external courses and training in SEN pedagogy or curriculum design.
