The Opportunity:

The Assistant Head of Secondary Teaching and Learning will lead instructional excellence across Key Stages 3 to 5, driving high-quality teaching and learning practices. This is a senior leadership role with a strong focus on academic leadership, professional development, and supporting outstanding student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and quality assure teaching and learning across Key Stages 3–5
• Embed a shared language of high-quality instruction across departments
• Design and deliver research-informed Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
• Develop instructional coaching and build leadership capacity across faculties
• Ensure teaching practice meets KHDA and BSO Outstanding standards
• Promote a culture of academic ambition and intellectual curiosity
• Support Heads of Faculty in maintaining high instructional standards
• Model outstanding classroom practice and set a standard for excellence

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in education with PGCE or equivalent
• Minimum 3–5 years of middle leadership experience
• Proven leadership experience in teaching, learning, and curriculum development
• Strong pedagogical knowledge across secondary pathways
• Experience in leading impactful professional development
• Ability to build effective teams and delegate responsibilities

Preferred

• Tertiary qualifications such as NPQSL
• Experience in large school settings
• Creative and innovative approach to teaching and leadership
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
