The Opportunity:
The Assistant Head (Pastoral and Wellbeing) will play a vital role in promoting student welfare and ensuring a positive school culture. This position offers the chance to lead and shape a supportive environment that empowers students and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop the pastoral care system to ensure the wellbeing of all pupils.
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and Pastoral Leads to implement effective support strategies.
- Deliver high-quality pastoral support and guidance to students, parents, and staff.
- Oversee the development and delivery of safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Lead and support staff in fostering a nurturing and inclusive school environment.
- Chair meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders including parents, pupils, and colleagues.
- Develop and implement initiatives that promote student mental health and emotional wellbeing.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral care practices across the school.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in pastoral roles within a school setting.
- Experience as a Designated Senior Person (DSP) or DSL with up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding best practice.
- Strong classroom experience and a track record of successful teaching.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
- High level of organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive school culture.
Preferred
- Experience in staff development and training.
- Experience in curriculum development or pastoral policy creation.
- Knowledge of mental health and wellbeing strategies in education.
- Experience in leading or contributing to whole-school improvement initiatives.
