The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher - Academics & Progress, you will play a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and ensuring consistent improvement across all stages. This is a leadership position for someone passionate about shaping teaching, learning, and assessment strategies that have a measurable impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for whole-school academic standards and pupil progress
  • Lead the development and implementation of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil performance using robust data analysis to inform improvement
  • Support Heads of Department and teaching staff to drive excellence in classroom practice
  • Oversee curriculum design, coherence, and progression across key stages
  • Lead initiatives to close gaps and ensure all pupils achieve their full potential
  • Contribute to staff development, coaching, and performance management
  • Play an active role in whole-school leadership and strategic planning

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven success in leading teaching, learning, and academic progress
  • A strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and data-informed improvement
  • The ability to inspire, challenge, and support colleagues to deliver outstanding teaching
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
  • A strategic mindset combined with a hands-on, collaborative leadership style

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within an independent school
  • A commitment to academic excellence balanced with pupil wellbeing
  • Experience in curriculum development and staff training
