The Opportunity:
As an Assistant Headteacher – Teaching and Learning, you will lead and shape the school’s approach to teaching, learning, and professional development. This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on educational outcomes and staff growth across all key stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement the school’s teaching and learning strategy to ensure high-quality classroom practice
- Promote research-informed pedagogy and innovative teaching methods
- Monitor and evaluate teaching quality through lesson observations, learning walks, and work scrutiny
- Oversee assessment practices to support pupil progress and academic success
- Work with Heads of Department to develop and maintain a coherent curriculum
- Analyse pupil performance data to inform strategic planning and improvement
- Coordinate professional development for teaching staff through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
- Support the pastoral life of the school and uphold standards of behaviour and wellbeing
- Teach within your specialist subject, modelling excellent classroom practice
- Contribute to enrichment, co-curricular activities, and wider school events
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching and leadership within a school setting
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire colleagues
- Deep understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment strategies
- Commitment to high academic standards and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in working with students across Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5
Preferred
- Experience in senior leadership or middle management roles
- Background in curriculum development and strategic planning
- Experience with professional development and staff coaching
- Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and assessment practices
- Strong track record in driving improvement and raising attainment
