The Opportunity:
As the Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour and Safeguarding, you will lead the school’s approach to behaviour management, safeguarding, and pastoral care. In this role, you will ensure a culture of safety, dignity, and respect, while supporting vulnerable students and driving staff development. This is a key leadership position with significant impact on student well-being and school culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership in behaviour management, pastoral systems, and safeguarding across the school.
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring the school meets all safeguarding and child protection standards.
- Develop and implement consistent behaviour policies and systems that promote a positive school environment.
- Collaborate with staff, external agencies, and families to support vulnerable students and ensure their educational success.
- Lead and develop pastoral teams, ensuring they are well-trained and aligned with the school’s values.
- Foster a culture rooted in dignity, respect, and the school’s ethos.
- Drive staff training and professional development in safeguarding and behaviour management.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding and behaviour policies, making improvements where necessary.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, with a focus on behaviour and safeguarding.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures, including the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, students, and external agencies.
- A strong moral purpose and commitment to student welfare and school values.
- Experience in managing and leading pastoral teams.
Preferred
- Experience in a Catholic or faith-based school setting.
- Experience in developing and delivering staff training on behaviour and safeguarding.
- Experience in leading school-wide initiatives to improve student behaviour and well-being.
- Familiarity with the National Curriculum and its requirements for pastoral and safeguarding education.
