The Opportunity:
As an Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo), you will lead the provision of support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This strategic role combines leadership, operational oversight, and a commitment to inclusive education, ensuring all students receive the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and shape the school's SEND and Inclusion strategy.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and provision for students with SEND, including EHCPs and Personalised Learning Plans.
- Manage the Student Support Centre and ensure high-quality interventions and resources.
- Coordinate with academic and pastoral leaders to monitor progress and secure strong outcomes.
- Develop staff expertise through targeted CPD, coaching, and guidance on inclusive practice.
- Support admissions and maintain accurate records related to SEND.
- Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure consistent provision.
- Ensure policies and procedures are embedded across the school.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Senior or middle leadership experience.
- Deep understanding of SEND and inclusive education.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead with clarity, empathy, and purpose.
- Experience in managing a team and delivering strategic initiatives.
Preferred
- Experience with EHCPs and annual reviews.
- Background in developing and implementing inclusive teaching strategies.
- Experience in leading CPD and staff development.
- Strong understanding of exam access arrangements and support procedures.
