The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher Pastoral, you will play a vital role in shaping the school’s pastoral care strategy and ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the school’s pastoral care strategy to support student well-being and academic success.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure a whole-school approach to inclusion and student support.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to staff to improve pastoral practices and student outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral interventions and support systems.
  • Work closely with external agencies and support services to ensure students receive comprehensive care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies related to student welfare and behavior.
  • Represent the school at relevant meetings and conferences, promoting the school’s pastoral care ethos.
  • Support the Headteacher in managing the senior leadership team and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, ideally as an Assistant Headteacher or middle leader with a focus on pastoral care.
  • Strong knowledge of pastoral care, inclusion, and student support strategies.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Experience in managing and developing teams within a school setting.
  • Commitment to inclusion, social mobility, and academic excellence.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school with a strong focus on inclusion and diversity.
  • Familiarity with the Wandle Learning Trust or similar multi-academy trusts.
  • Experience in leading initiatives related to student well-being and mental health.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
