The Opportunity:

As Assistant Headteacher (SENDCO), you will lead and shape the school’s SEND provision, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to reach their full potential. This role requires a strategic thinker who can collaborate with staff, families, and external agencies to drive positive outcomes for students with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the school’s SEND policy and strategy
  • Manage and support a team of LSAs to deliver high-quality support to students
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for students
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision across the school
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on inclusive practices
  • Develop and implement targeted interventions to support student progress
  • Contribute to the overall leadership and strategic direction of the school

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Current holder of the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or equivalent, or willing to obtain it within 1 year
  • Proven experience in team leadership or management, with a demonstrable impact on both pupils and staff
  • Strong teaching background with a track record of improving student progress
  • In-depth knowledge of statutory SEND responsibilities and the SEND Code of Practice
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long and short-term goals

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development or teaching and learning leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative approaches to SEND support
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in a growing or expanding school setting
