The Opportunity:

As an SENCO, you will shape the strategic direction of SEND across the school, leading a team of LSAs and ensuring a consistent, high-quality approach to support all pupils. This role is pivotal in driving inclusive education and making a meaningful impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school’s SEND policy and provision
  • Oversee the implementation of a graduated approach to support all pupils with SEND
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for students
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on SEND-related matters
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in SEND provision
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support
  • Coordinate with the leadership team to align SEND goals with the school’s overall vision

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Currently hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or equivalent qualification, or be willing to work towards it within 1 year
  • Proven experience in team leadership or management, with a demonstrated impact on both pupils and teachers
  • Exceptional teaching experience with a strong track record of improving student progress
  • In-depth knowledge of SEND statutory responsibilities and the ability to ensure compliance with legislation
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to balance long and short-term goals

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development, teaching and learning, or assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with external agencies and families
  • Experience in professional development and staff training
