The Opportunity:
Join a school in a leadership role as Assistant Headteacher – Teaching and Learning, where you will shape and sustain outstanding educational practice across all key stages. This is a strategic position that drives excellence in teaching, learning, and professional development, with a strong focus on student progress and staff support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement the school’s teaching and learning strategy to ensure consistently high-quality classroom practice
- Promote research-informed pedagogy and innovative approaches to teaching and assessment
- Monitor, evaluate, and support teaching quality through lesson observations, learning walks, and work scrutiny
- Oversee assessment practices to ensure they are effective, meaningful, and support pupil progress
- Work with Heads of Department to support curriculum development and coherence across the school
- Analyse pupil performance data to identify strengths, address gaps, and inform strategic planning
- Lead and coordinate high-quality professional development for teaching staff
- Support staff through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
- Play an active role in the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school strategy and development
- Support the pastoral life of the school and uphold high standards of behaviour, engagement, and wellbeing
- Teach within your specialist subject, modelling excellent practice in the classroom
- Support enrichment, co-curricular activities, and wider school events
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A proven track record of outstanding classroom practice
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to influence and inspire others
- A deep understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment
- A commitment to high academic standards and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative, supportive, and reflective leadership style
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Preferred
- Experience in a senior leadership role
- Experience with curriculum development and strategic planning
- Experience with pastoral leadership and student wellbeing initiatives
- Experience with professional development and staff coaching
