The Opportunity:

As an Assistant SENCO, you will support the school in providing inclusive education and ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is ideal for someone passionate about SEND and dedicated to making a real impact in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the SENDCO in overseeing SEND provision across the school, ensuring compliance and high standards.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and monitoring of pupils with SEND using evidence-based approaches.
  • Coordinate targeted interventions and track their effectiveness to improve pupil outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement adaptive teaching and reasonable adjustments.
  • Support the writing and reviewing of Learner Profiles and EHCP-related documentation.
  • Collect and analyse data to inform diagnostic assessments and intervention planning.
  • Liaise with families, external agencies, and services to support pupil progress.
  • Maintain accurate SEND records and contribute to statutory reporting requirements.
  • Lead or support staff training on inclusion, adaptive teaching, and SEND best practice.
  • Carry out learning walks and provide feedback to enhance SEND provision and classroom practice.
  • Ensure the school meets all legal and statutory obligations related to SEND.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and high expectations for all learners.
  • Deliver teaching and reviewing of SEND interventions in 1:1 or small group settings.
  • Support the admissions process for SEND pupils, ensuring smooth transition and appropriate provision.
  • Undertake administrative duties related to SEND provision and department management.
  • Promote the wellbeing, safeguarding, and pastoral care of pupils with SEND.
  • Commit to helping with extra-curricular activities and curriculum enrichment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in supporting pupils with SEND in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, pupils, and parents.
  • Understanding of statutory requirements and best practice in SEND provision.
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and report writing.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or learning support roles.
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and documentation.
  • Experience with staff training and professional development.
  • Familiarity with inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive learning approaches.
  • Experience in pastoral care and safeguarding.
