The Opportunity:
A Chemistry Lab Technician is needed to support the Chemistry Department in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organised laboratory environment. The role involves setting up experiments, managing lab resources, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Keeping accurate records of departmental expenditure and stock levels
- Conducting regular health and safety checks across all laboratory areas and equipment
- Completing weekly, monthly, and termly lab checks in line with departmental requirements
- Organising and safely storing chemicals, biological materials, and equipment
- Ensuring safe disposal of waste materials and maintaining accurate records
- Preparing and setting up experiments, demonstrations, and student practicals
- Assisting in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of laboratory equipment
- Supporting teachers in trial new practicals and providing risk assessment recommendations
- Coordinating lab setups for Open Days and other events
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- GCSE in English and Mathematics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred
- Previous experience working in a school environment
- Familiarity with CLEAPSS guidelines and health and safety procedures
- Experience with lab equipment maintenance and repair
