The Opportunity:

As an Assistant SENCO, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality support to students with special educational needs and disabilities. This is a vital position that contributes directly to the academic and personal development of students, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the SENCO in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure consistent and effective support for students with additional needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the identification and early intervention for students who may have special educational needs.
  • Promote inclusive practices across the school, ensuring all students have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, including pupil progress meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to student support and interventions.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on best practices for teaching students with special educational needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualification in education, such as a degree or teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working abilities.
  • A proactive and positive attitude towards student support and inclusion.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school setting, preferably within a secondary school.
  • Familiarity with special educational needs legislation and policy.
  • Experience in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Training or experience in SENCO support roles.
