The Opportunity:

A Bassoon Peripatetic Teacher is needed to deliver high-quality instrumental tuition to students across both the Junior and Senior School. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and passionate musician to contribute to a vibrant and ambitious music department, supporting students in their musical journeys and helping to grow the bassoon provision within the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective bassoon lessons to students of varying abilities, including advanced players beyond Grade 8 standard.
  • Prepare students for music examinations and performances, ensuring a high standard of musical development.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support a collaborative and inspiring learning environment.
  • Collaborate with the music department to enhance the school’s music programme and expand bassoon opportunities.
  • Maintain a flexible and professional approach, working independently and as part of a team.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to students to foster confidence and musical curiosity.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents and the department.
  • Participate in school events and performances as required, contributing to the school’s musical culture.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant music qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience in teaching bassoon to students of all abilities.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and musical curiosity in pupils.
  • Flexibility and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience with teaching students beyond Grade 8 standard.
  • Familiarity with music examination boards and performance standards.
  • Experience working with young people in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of music technology and digital teaching tools.
