Summary:
Head of Music - TLR 2b (£5990) – lead a dynamic music department and inspire students through excellence in teaching and performance.

The Opportunity:
As the Head of Music, you will lead a vibrant and ambitious music curriculum for students aged 11–18, ensuring a balanced approach to academic and practical music-making. This is an opportunity to shape a curriculum that values creativity, performance, and cultural understanding, while inspiring students to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a high-quality, inclusive music curriculum aligned with the Model Music Curriculum and National Plan for Music Education.
- Lead and support a team of music teachers, promoting excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Ensure students gain confidence in performing, composing and listening, with opportunities for both academic and vocational pathways.
- Enhance extracurricular opportunities, including ensemble performance, concerts, and community partnerships.
- Foster a culture where music is central to the school’s identity and student experience.
- Promote the value of music in developing creativity, collaboration, and independent thinking.
- Monitor and improve student outcomes at GCSE, BTEC and Post-16 levels.
- Stay up to date with developments in music education and integrate innovative teaching methods and technologies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in delivering music at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
- Proven track record of securing strong outcomes at GCSE, BTEC and Post-16 level.
- Strong knowledge of current developments in music education and curriculum innovation.
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
- Commitment to inclusive education and supporting students from all backgrounds.
- Ability to inspire and motivate both students and colleagues.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum design and development.
- Knowledge of musical technology and contemporary teaching approaches.
- Experience in leading and developing extracurricular music activities.
- Experience in working with students with special educational needs.
- Experience in leading or contributing to music productions and performances.
