The Opportunity:

As a Catering Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the school’s mission to provide healthy, nutritious meals to students. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment that values professional growth and a commitment to student well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the preparation and cooking of meals in line with agreed standards.
  • Ensuring the service and presentation of food and beverages meet the school’s expectations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in catering areas and equipment.
  • Keeping accurate records to ensure compliance with food safety and HACCP regulations.
  • Supporting the Head Chef in managing food portioning and counting for outside kitchens.
  • Delivering food to local primary schools and assisting with catering van operations when required.
  • Complying with all relevant legislation and policies, including health and safety, food hygiene, and child protection.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Willingness to undertake induction and ongoing training.
  • Experience of working successfully as part of a team.
  • Experience of providing exceptional customer service.
  • Commitment to complying with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations.
  • A passion for food and the ability to follow recipes.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, students, and visitors.
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage time effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of students.
  • Understanding of the school’s ethos and values.

Preferred

  • A food hygiene qualification (Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of working in a busy kitchen or catering role.
  • Experience of working in a school or similar establishment.
  • Knowledge of stock management and health and safety guidelines.
