The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate Classics Teacher to inspire students and bring the ancient world to life through Latin and Classical Civilisation. This role offers the chance to shape young minds and contribute to a department known for its academic excellence and strong pastoral support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Latin and Classical Civilisation across all key stages, including GCSE and A Level.
  • Deliver a structured and engaging curriculum that promotes literacy, cultural awareness, and critical thinking.
  • Support students in developing grammatical precision and vocabulary through immersive learning experiences.
  • Plan and lead extracurricular activities, including trips, clubs, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to enhance interdisciplinary learning.
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to students, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Participate in training and professional development initiatives, including support for trainee teachers.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department’s teaching and learning practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in teaching Classics at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Latin and Classical Civilisation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering a structured and progressive curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student welfare and pastoral care.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading extracurricular activities or trips related to Classics.
  • Experience with teaching Ancient Greek or offering GCSE in Ancient Greek.
  • Familiarity with OCR and A Level specifications.
  • Experience in supporting trainee teachers or delivering training sessions.
  • Strong record of student achievement and academic progression.
