The Opportunity:

As Deputy Director of Technology, you will provide senior operational leadership across all College sites, ensuring the delivery of reliable, secure, and user-focused IT services. This is a pivotal role in driving service improvement, cyber security maturity, and digital transformation at a time of significant growth and investment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead IT service delivery across all College sites, ensuring end-to-end performance and setting, monitoring, and reporting against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Hold accountability for cyber security, including incident oversight and the implementation and regular testing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Ensure effective integration between IT Support and IT Infrastructure to provide seamless service and oversee application software management.
  • Line manage the IT Support Team Manager and IT Infrastructure Team Manager, ensuring effective resource planning and performance management.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT operational policies, standards, and procedures in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure value-for-money delivery of IT services.
  • Support the Director in delivering the College's IT and digital strategy, contributing to wider transformation initiatives and operational risk management.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification in IT or a related field
  • Significant experience managing IT teams and services, ideally in an education or similarly complex environment
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience managing or integrating IT infrastructure, networks, and cloud-based services
  • Experience managing or contributing to cyber security frameworks and compliance
  • Experience developing and implementing IT policies and procedures
  • Ability to set and monitor SLAs and KPIs, analyse helpdesk data, and drive service improvement
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service ethos
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Strong documentation skills for procedures, policies, and technical configurations
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Willingness to work across all College sites and outside normal hours as required
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding

Preferred

  • A management qualification
  • A cyber security certification
  • Microsoft or Cisco certifications
  • Experience with ITIL or other quality management frameworks
  • Project management and digital transformation experience
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in educational technology
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and contracts
  • Experience with scripting and Microsoft Power Automate
  • Experience supporting Apple devices and a range of operating systems including Linux
