The Opportunity:

As the Deputy Head of Academics, you will play a vital role in shaping the academic direction of the school and supporting the achievement and wellbeing of all students. This is a leadership position that offers the opportunity to influence policy, manage a senior team, and drive continuous improvement across the academic department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development of academic policies and practices across the school.
  • Manage a team of key academic staff, including Heads of Department, the Exams and Data Manager, and the SENDCo.
  • Oversee the implementation of strategies that enhance teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Head to ensure alignment with school priorities and strategic goals.
  • Promote and uphold the school’s mission, values, and commitment to safeguarding.
  • Support staff development through training, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Ensure high standards of teaching, assessment, and classroom management across the school.
  • Monitor and evaluate academic performance to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong academic background and teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team of senior staff.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
  • Experience in curriculum development and academic strategy.

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within a school.
  • Familiarity with exam systems and data management.
  • Experience with special educational needs and inclusion strategies.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic Christian values and ethos.
  • Experience in leading professional development and staff training.
