The Opportunity:

As a Deputy Head of English, you will play a key role in shaping the English curriculum and supporting student achievement. You will lead and inspire a dedicated team, ensuring students develop the skills and confidence needed for success in their studies and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development of the English curriculum across key stages.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff within the department.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with school goals and strategies.
  • Manage and develop the A level cohort, ensuring strong student outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of inclusivity and high academic standards across the department.
  • Support the implementation of examiner experience and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a school or college setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, including experience of teaching at both GCSE and A level.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes and raising standards.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery.

Preferred

  • Experience in a deputy head or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar.
  • Strong understanding of current educational trends and policies.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar structure.
  • Experience in leading professional development programs for staff.
