The Opportunity:
As a Deputy SENCO, you will support students with additional needs in making outstanding progress within the curriculum and striving towards independence. You will work closely with the SENCO, Heads of Learning Areas, and classroom teachers to ensure inclusive learning environments. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes and contribute to a supportive, high-achieving school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the SENCO in managing the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision across the school.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and Heads of Learning Areas to ensure effective inclusion strategies.
- Liaise with external agencies, parents, and carers to support students’ learning and development.
- Chair meetings and provide leadership in SEND-related discussions.
- Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all paperwork is completed to a high standard.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, ensuring timely and efficient communication.
- Support the line management of colleagues within the CSD Department when required.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience across different key stages.
- Proven track record in supporting students with additional needs.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
- Experience in SEN or a clear desire to develop specialist SEN knowledge.
Preferred
- Experience in managing SENCO responsibilities or deputising for the SENCO.
- Familiarity with inclusive teaching strategies and curriculum adaptation.
- Experience with external agencies and multi-agency collaboration.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
