The Opportunity:

The Head of Mathematics will lead a vital learning area and shape the future of Mathematics education. This role is ideal for experienced leaders or those ready to step into their first head of department position. The successful candidate will drive excellence in teaching and learning, ensuring a high-performing team and outstanding student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a Mathematics department to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.
  • Ensure high standards of academic achievement and student progress across all key stages.
  • Support and mentor staff to enhance professional development and performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies and curriculum delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Extended Leadership Team to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous assessment and feedback processes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in Mathematics education.
  • Represent the department in meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a Mathematics department or a strong middle leadership background.
  • Excellent subject knowledge in Mathematics and a passion for the subject.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Commitment to high standards and a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Experience in delivering and maintaining high-quality teaching and learning.

Preferred

  • Experience in a federation or multi-academy trust environment.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and curriculum development.
  • Experience with data analysis and student progress tracking.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to inspire others.
