The Opportunity:

As the Head of Science, you will provide strong leadership and drive improvements in the Science Learning Area. You will collaborate closely with the Head of Learning Area and be instrumental in maintaining and raising standards of teaching and learning. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of science education and inspire the next generation of learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science Learning Area, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Learning Area to support the overall vision of the school.
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in science education.
  • Support and mentor science staff, fostering a culture of professional development and excellence.
  • Oversee curriculum planning and ensure alignment with school and federation goals.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure the school’s vision and values are embedded in all aspects of science teaching.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a science department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in science with a commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues.
  • Experience in driving improvements in teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to the school’s values, including excellence, no excuses, and unity.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum development and innovation in science education.
  • Leadership experience in a large or multi-academy setting.
  • Experience with data analysis and assessment strategies.
  • Familiarity with the Mossbourne Federation’s ethos and values.
  • Experience in leading professional development for science staff.
