Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Modern Foreign Languages department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement in the subject.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department, promoting continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align departmental goals with school-wide priorities.
  • Oversee curriculum design and assessment strategies to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusion across the learning area.
  • Represent the department in meetings and external events, advocating for the subject and its impact.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a department or transitioning into a leadership role.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Modern Foreign Languages, with the ability to teach Key Stage 5 as an advantage.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills with a track record of driving improvement.
  • Commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and behaviour.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate both students and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience with innovative teaching methods and curriculum development.
  • Background in working within a federation or multi-academy trust.
  • Familiarity with exam board requirements and marking processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across the school.
