The Opportunity:

The Director of Drama will lead a dynamic and committed department for one term, overseeing the casting and direction of the school play in November 2026. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic and experienced professional who is passionate about drama and theatre education, and who is committed to fostering creativity and performance excellence in students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the drama department and oversee the delivery of the curriculum for Years 7 to 13.
  • Direct and cast the school play, ensuring high-quality productions that engage and inspire students.
  • Coordinate with other departments to integrate drama into the broader educational experience.
  • Plan and deliver professional development opportunities for drama staff.
  • Organise and lead trips to professional theatre productions.
  • Ensure that drama is offered as a GCSE and A Level subject, with strong student participation.
  • Support students in preparing for exam performances and productions, including evening and weekend rehearsals.
  • Promote drama and theatre across the school through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a drama department in a school setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of drama and theatre education, including GCSE and A Level qualifications.
  • Ability to direct and manage large-scale productions.
  • Commitment to the school’s ethos and vision for student development.

Preferred

  • Experience with casting and directing school plays and productions.
  • Experience in organising theatre trips and professional development for drama staff.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with colleagues and students.
  • Passion for drama and theatre, with a commitment to student engagement and performance excellence.
