The Opportunity:

The Director of Finance and Operations will provide strategic leadership across all financial and operational functions, ensuring the school’s resources and infrastructure support its educational mission. This role is central to the school’s long-term development and financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the school’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement policies that support the school’s strategic objectives and financial sustainability.
  • Coordinate with the Headmaster and Governors to ensure alignment with the school’s vision and goals.
  • Manage administrative and commercial operations to maintain efficiency and support the school’s educational aims.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and financial requirements.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing operations team to deliver excellence in service and support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of non-academic functions to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to drive innovation and continuous improvement across the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in senior financial and operational leadership roles within an educational institution.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the school.
  • Experience in managing large-scale operations and delivering results in a complex environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in independent or academically high-performing schools.
  • Knowledge of educational governance and the role of governors in strategic development.
  • Familiarity with bursary and scholarship management.
  • Experience in managing large teams and driving organisational change.
