The Opportunity:

As the Director of Music, you will lead and develop the music program across the school, fostering a culture of musical excellence and engagement. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the music program, ensuring it meets the highest standards of teaching and performance.
  • Oversee the management of visiting music staff and coordinate with part-time music administrators and teachers.
  • Deliver high-quality music instruction and support the development of students at all levels of musical ability.
  • Promote and expand the school’s co-curricular music activities, including ensemble and solo performance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Eltham College Family of Schools to enhance music provision and share best practices.
  • Implement initiatives that align with the school’s vision and support the continued success of the music department.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and facilities to support the music program.
  • Support and mentor visiting music teachers and part-time staff to maintain consistency and quality in teaching.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a music department within an educational setting.
  • Strong teaching experience in music, with the ability to deliver across a range of ages and abilities.
  • Experience in managing and supporting visiting teachers and part-time staff.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A passion for music and a commitment to fostering a love of music in students.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and managing co-curricular music programs.
  • Experience with music performance and ensemble work.
  • Familiarity with the Eltham College Family of Schools or similar institutions.
  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation in music education.
  • Strong understanding of child development and pastoral care in an educational context.
